Are you ready to master crochet blankets with a FREE event? The Crochet Blanket Summit was created to help you dream up & stitch your own crochet blanket projects. It kicks off on September 16 for 3 days, so we chatted with Hortense from Knitting with Chopsticks to find out more.

Tell us a little about this event!

The Crochet Blanket Summit is a free 3-day online event where you’ll learn how to dream up & stitch your next crochet blanket project from 20 of the top crochet designers online today.

The Crochet Blanket Summit will run from Saturday September 16 to Monday September 18. Each day will be packed with amazing speakers who are ready to help you crochet gorgeous blankets. There are 20 classes taught by professional crochet designers with trainings on blanket math, choosing yarn & colors, blanket constructions, joining methods, colorwork, graphgans and many more.

Each lesson is 20-25 minutes and will be followed by a live Q&A with the class teacher in the Summit Facebook Group. Your free ticket includes 24 hour access to each lesson from the time each one goes live.

The event is held 100% virtually online, so you’ll be able to attend all the presentations from the comfort of your couch. We’ll also have a pop-up Facebook group to connect with fellow crocheters from all over the world, attend the live Q&A’s, ask questions about the lessons or crochet blankets in general, connect with the designers and other attendees and show off your projects!

And of course, you’ll also have a chance to win amazing prizes including yarn, hooks and crochet magazines.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Here’s a bit of the story behind the summit and why I decided to host it:

Hortense’s mom originally taught her to knit, but now she’s the one teaching her crochet. She managed to get both her mom and sister hooked, but once they had done a few projects, they wanted to express their creativity and not just follow a pattern to the T. The problem is they didn’t know how to turn their ideas into gorgeous blankets. (Blankets are the best place to start and also a family favorite)

Helping them through this process made her realize there aren’t many resources out there to help you learn all the little things that make a big difference, such as picking colors, what size to make your blanket (and why), all the different blanket constructions, what techniques exist and how to use them, etc.

So many times, they would come to her super excited because they found some really cool new crochet blanket construction on Pinterest, only for Hortense to tell them granny squares have been around for a while. Once she gave them the name of the stitch/technique/construction, a youtube tutorial and some guidance to make a project plan they made some gorgeous blankets.

Hortense even turned a few of their creations into patterns on her blog: Her mom made the Adelie Granny Square blanket, while her sister is behind the You Stole my Heart BlanketPlaza Blanket and Compostela Blanket.

If you don’t know about a stitch, technique or construction, you can’t look it up.

You don’t need more stitch tutorials and patterns, you can find these in just a few clicks on Youtube and Pinterest.

But what you can’t get that easily is the knowledge and know-how to dream up your own projects which usually only comes with time and experience (and lots of frogging).

She knew her mom and sister weren’t the only ones, so she decided it was time to do something about it and started organizing the Crochet Blanket Summit.

Little did she know it would turn into this big free 3-day online event with over 20 lessons from some of the top crochet designers online today such as Marly Bird, Life and Yarn and Sweet Potato 3 just to name a few.

She can’t wait for September 16 and share with you all the amazing ways you can crochet gorgeous blankets so you can make up your own projects!
